About Motokazi
Motokazi ‘The Woman Blaze‘ was founded to light up the achievements of Malawian women whose contributions too often go unrecorded or overlooked. We work to ensure that the digital record reflects the resilience, leadership, and impact of women across Malawi.
MotoKazi was founded by a group of volunteers who are committed to closing the gender gap on the world’s largest encyclopaedia, Wikipedia. Our team brings together educators, researchers, professionals, Wikimedians, and advocates who share one belief: women’s stories deserve to be seen, known, and celebrated.
Together, we create and improve Wikipedia articles and train new editors to increase Wikipedia articles, and collaborate with partners to increase the availability of openly licensed images. Our work is driven by passion, purpose, and the conviction that representation matters. When women are visible online, they become role models, sources of inspiration, and part of the global story.
We are proudly connected to international efforts such as Women in Red and supported by partnerships that believe in open knowledge and gender equity.
